Possible Causes

Defective defrost temperature sensor, Sensor not in contact with evaporator, Wiring damage to defrost sensor, Control board defrost logic failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing internal components.

  • Locate defrost sensor: On many AEG units, the defrost sensor is another NTC clipped to the lower part of the evaporator coil.
  • Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped or taped to the coil. Reattach with aluminum tape if loose.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the PCB, checking for damage or loose connectors. Reseat the plug.
  • Measure resistance: Compare resistance of the defrost sensor to the ambient sensor at the same temperature. Large discrepancies indicate a faulty sensor.
  • Replace defrost sensor: Install a new defrost NTC sensor if readings are out of range.
  • Board issue: If a new sensor does not clear F1, the main control PCB may have a defrost control fault and require replacement.
