Aprilaire dehumidifier runs but does not remove moisture (air feels unchanged, bucket or drain is dry)

Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.

• Check for condensate: Inspect the drain line or pan while the unit runs. If there is no water after several hours of operation in humid conditions, dehumidification is not occurring.
• Listen for compressor: With the unit running, listen for the compressor hum and slight vibration. If only the fan runs, the compressor may be failed or not receiving power.
• Inspect coils: Remove panels and check both evaporator and condenser coils for heavy dirt. Clean with coil cleaner and a soft brush.
• Look for frost: Ice on the evaporator indicates a possible airflow or refrigerant issue.
• Professional diagnosis: If coils are clean and the compressor still does not dehumidify, contact an HVAC technician to check compressor operation, capacitors, and refrigerant charge. The sealed system or Aprilaire compressor may need replacement.
