Possible Causes

Burned-out heating element, Open thermal fuse on heater assembly, Loose heater wiring or connector, Heavy limescale buildup on heater causing localized overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and let it cool completely. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination—do not work on a hot or plugged-in appliance.

Inspection steps:

  • Descale first: Remove the water tank and access the heating chamber. If there is heavy limescale on the heater plate or element, soak the area with a manufacturer-approved descaler or a 1:1 vinegar-water solution for 30–60 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and test. Sometimes E5 is triggered by overheating due to scale.
  • Check for leaks: Inspect around the heater for signs of water leakage that may have affected electrical parts.
  • Access the heater assembly: Remove the base cover and locate the heater. Look for burned spots, melted insulation, or discolored connectors.
  • Check wiring: Ensure all heater terminals are firmly connected and not corroded. Reseat any push-on connectors.
  • Test the heater (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the heater leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Inspect thermal fuse/thermostat: Many Beurer heaters include a thermal fuse in series. If it is open, the heater will not energize. Replace only with the same temperature and current rating.

Warning: Heater circuit repairs involve mains voltage. If you are not trained in electrical safety, have the heater assembly replaced by an authorized service center.
