Possible Causes
Dirty evaporator coil, Standing water in bucket or drain pan, Mold growth on filter or plastic surfaces, Infrequent cleaning and maintenance
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Avoid inhaling dust or mold; consider wearing a mask and gloves.
Steps:
- Clean bucket and tray: Wash the water bucket and internal tray with warm soapy water and a small amount of bleach or disinfectant. Rinse thoroughly.
- Clean filter: Remove and wash the air filter. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean coils: Gently vacuum the evaporator and condenser coils. If heavily soiled, use a non-rinse coil cleaner following the product instructions.
- Dry the unit: After cleaning, run the fan-only mode (if available) for 30–60 minutes to help dry internal surfaces.
- Regular maintenance: Repeat cleaning every few weeks during heavy use to prevent odor recurrence.
