Possible Causes
Defective defrost sensor, Sensor not making good contact with evaporator, Control board defrost algorithm failure, Severely restricted airflow causing abnormal coil temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing internal components.
Steps:
- Clean filter and grilles: Ensure the air filter is clean and the intake/exhaust are unobstructed to prevent abnormal coil temperatures.
- Inspect defrost sensor: The defrost sensor is usually the same as or in addition to the evaporator NTC, clipped to the coil. Confirm it is firmly attached and not dangling.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the PCB and reseat the connector. Look for damage or corrosion.
- Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to expected NTC values. Replace if open/shorted or out of range.
- Board replacement: If a new sensor and proper airflow do not clear E7, the main control PCB’s defrost circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
