Possible Causes
Faulty compressor start relay/PTC, Failed run capacitor (if used), Open compressor winding, Main control board not sending power to compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and discharge any capacitors before touching compressor wiring. High voltage is present.
Steps:
- Listen for compressor: When the unit calls for dehumidification, you should hear a low hum from the compressor. If there is only fan noise, continue.
- Check for error codes: If none are displayed, remove the rear cover to access the compressor area.
- Inspect start device: The start relay/PTC is attached to the compressor terminals. Look for burn marks or melted plastic. Replace the compressor start relay/PTC if damaged.
- Run capacitor (if present): Some models use a capacitor. If bulged or leaking, replace the compressor run capacitor with the same µF rating and voltage.
- Advanced testing: If the compressor still does not start, testing windings and current draw should be done by a professional. A failed compressor or main board may need replacement.
