Possible Causes

Defective evaporator temperature sensor (coil sensor), Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Failed main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Always unplug the dehumidifier before opening the cabinet. Avoid touching sharp metal edges around the coil.

Steps to resolve E2:

  • Reset the unit: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect and power on. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
  • Access the evaporator coil: Remove the rear or front cover (depending on model). The evaporator coil is the cold aluminum finned coil behind the air filter.
  • Locate the coil sensor: Look for a small probe or clip-on sensor attached to the evaporator fins, usually with two thin wires leading to the control board.
  • Check mounting and condition: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the coil and not hanging loose. A loose sensor can cause incorrect readings and E2. Re-clip it securely to the coil surface.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the main PCB. Look for cuts, pinches, or corrosion. Reseat the connector on the board.
  • Test the sensor (optional): With a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads at room temperature. Compare to the specification in your service manual; an open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace the evaporator sensor if faulty: Purchase a model-specific evaporator temperature sensor for your Black+Decker unit. Install it in the same position on the coil and reconnect to the board.
  • If E2 remains: A persistent E2 with a known-good sensor suggests a defective main control board. Consider professional diagnosis and board replacement.
