Dehumidifier displays E8 and shuts down, often after running for a short time

Steps to troubleshoot E8:

• Check for obstructions: Look through the grille to see if plastic, packing material, or debris is blocking the fan. Remove any obstruction.
• Access the fan: Remove the rear or front cover to expose the fan assembly. Spin the fan blade by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding or resistance.
• Clean the fan and coil: Dust buildup can unbalance or slow the fan. Use a soft brush and vacuum to clean the blades and surrounding area.
• Inspect wiring: Verify the fan motor connector is fully seated on the main control board and that wires are not pinched or damaged.
• Test fan operation: With the unit reassembled and plugged in, start the dehumidifier and observe if the fan starts immediately. If it hums or does not start, the motor may be failing.
• Replace the fan motor: If the fan is seized, noisy, or fails to start, replace the fan motor assembly (often includes motor and fan blade) with a compatible Black+Decker part.
• Board issue: If a new fan motor does not resolve E8, the main control board may not be supplying proper voltage or reading fan feedback correctly. Professional diagnosis is recommended.
