Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Blocked capillary tube or expansion device, Faulty evaporator temperature sensor, Main control board misinterpreting coil temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before inspection. Do not attempt to cut or open refrigerant lines; this must be done by a licensed professional.

Steps to address EC:

  • Check ambient temperature: Ensure the room is within the operating range. Very low ambient temperatures can cause EC on some models.
  • Clean filters and coils: Remove and clean the air filter. Inspect and gently clean the evaporator and condenser coils with a soft brush to ensure good airflow.
  • Observe coil behavior: Run the unit for 15–20 minutes. If the evaporator coil does not get uniformly cool or only a small section frosts, the system may be low on refrigerant or restricted.
  • Sensor inspection: Verify the evaporator temperature sensor is properly attached to the coil and wiring is intact (see E2 steps). Replace the sensor if it is damaged.
  • Professional service: If EC persists and the coil does not frost evenly, the sealed system likely has a leak or restriction. Contact an authorized service center; sealed system repair (leak check, evacuation, recharge) is not a DIY task.
