P1
Black+Decker
Defrost Mode / Coil Defrosting in Low Temperature
Dehumidifier displays P1 and will not start dehumidifying

Possible Causes
Evaporator coil temperature below defrost threshold, Unit operating in a cold room, Frost buildup on evaporator, Faulty defrost sensor or control logic
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: On many Black+Decker dehumidifiers, P1 is a normal indication that the unit is in automatic defrost mode, not a fault.
What to do when P1 appears:
- Allow defrost cycle to complete: Leave the unit plugged in and powered on. The compressor will stop while the fan may continue to run to melt ice. P1 should clear automatically within 10–20 minutes.
- Check room temperature: If the room is below about 41–50°F (5–10°C), move the dehumidifier to a warmer location. These units are not designed for very cold basements or garages.
- Clean filter and coil: Restricted airflow can cause excessive frosting. Clean the air filter and gently clean the evaporator coil fins.
- If P1 never clears: The evaporator sensor may be misreading. Inspect and, if necessary, replace the evaporator temperature sensor as described under E2.
