Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Work carefully around sharp metal edges. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system unless you are certified.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for compressor: Plug in and start the unit. After the fan starts, listen for a low humming or vibration from the compressor. If it never starts or clicks repeatedly, there may be a start component issue.
- 2. Check compressor temperature: After 5–10 minutes of operation, carefully touch the compressor shell. It should be warm but not burning hot. A very hot compressor that is not running may have a tripped overload.
- 3. Inspect start relay/PTC: Unplug the unit, remove the rear panel, and access the compressor terminals. Remove the plastic cover and inspect the compressor start relay/PTC and overload. Look for burn marks or rattling parts. Replace with a compatible Camry start device if damaged.
- 4. Wiring check: Verify that all wires to the compressor, overload, and relay are firmly connected and not burnt.
- 5. Test run: Reassemble, plug in, and test. If the compressor now starts and E5 clears, monitor operation.
Important: If the compressor runs but there is no cooling (evaporator coil stays warm) or E5 persists, the sealed system may be low on refrigerant or blocked. This requires a professional refrigeration technician with proper tools and refrigerant handling certification.
