Possible Causes
Stuck float in bucket, Failed bucket full switch, Misaligned bucket not engaging switch, Broken float arm or magnet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing the water bucket.
Steps:
- 1. Empty and reseat bucket: Remove the water bucket, empty it completely, and reinstall it firmly. Ensure it is fully inserted so it can actuate the bucket full switch.
- 2. Inspect float mechanism: Many Carrier dehumidifiers use a float inside the bucket that lifts a magnet or lever. Check that the float moves freely up and down and is not jammed by dirt or scale.
- 3. Check bucket full switch: Locate the bucket full switch in the cabinet (often a small micro-switch or reed switch). Press it manually with the unit unplugged to ensure it moves freely and is not broken.
- 4. Clean and adjust: Clean any sludge or mineral buildup from the bucket and float. Make sure the float arm is not bent and that the magnet (if used) is intact.
- 5. Test operation: With the bucket correctly installed, plug the unit in and see if E7 clears. If the code remains and the switch is not being recognized, the switch or its wiring may be faulty.
- 6. Replace bucket switch or float assembly: Install the correct Carrier bucket full switch or float kit. Transfer any brackets or wiring as originally configured.
Note: Never bypass the bucket full switch; this can cause water overflow and property damage.
