• 4. Inspect fan motor and blade: With power disconnected, check that the fan blade is secure on the motor shaft and spins freely. Replace the fan motor if it hums but will not start or overheats quickly.
• 5. Check thermal devices: Some Carrier units have a thermal fuse or overload on the compressor or near the coil. If open, the unit may show E8. Testing and replacement of these components is best done by a technician.

When to call a technician: If airflow is good and the fan is working but E8 persists, there may be an internal compressor overheating issue or a faulty high-temperature sensor on the sealed system, which requires professional service.
