Possible Causes
Failed fan motor, Obstructed fan blade, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan speed control circuit on main board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges and fan blades.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect fan area: Remove the cover and check for debris, insulation, or wiring contacting the fan blade. Clear any obstructions.
- 2. Check fan blade: Ensure the blade is firmly attached to the motor shaft and not cracked or warped.
- 3. Test motor rotation: Spin the fan blade by hand. It should turn freely. If it is stiff or seized, the motor bearings may be failed.
- 4. Verify power to motor: With caution and the unit plugged in, start a dehumidify cycle and check if the motor receives voltage (this step is best done by a technician). If voltage is present but the motor does not run, replace the motor.
- 5. Replace fan motor: Install the correct Carrier fan motor assembly, transferring the blade and any mounting brackets as originally installed.
- 6. Control board check: If the motor is good but never receives power, the fan control circuit on the main board may be defective.
