Possible Causes
Loose fan blade on motor shaft, fan blade hitting housing, loose compressor mounting bolts, worn fan motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before inspecting moving parts.
Steps:
- Inspect fan area: Remove front and rear covers to access the fan. Check that the fan blade is firmly attached to the motor shaft and not rubbing against the shroud.
- Tighten or reposition: Tighten the fan hub screw or clip. Adjust the shroud or grille if it is contacting the blade.
- Check compressor mounts: Inspect the rubber grommets under the compressor. Tighten loose mounting bolts and replace cracked grommets with compressor mounting grommets.
- Replace noisy fan motor: If the noise is from the motor bearings (squealing or grinding), replace the fan motor assembly.
