Possible Causes

Seized fan motor, failed fan capacitor (if separate), broken fan blade or obstruction, faulty fan relay or triac on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges and moving parts.

Steps:

  • Check for obstructions: Remove front and rear grilles. Ensure nothing is blocking the fan blade. Spin the blade by hand; it should move freely.
  • Inspect fan blade: Replace a cracked or loose Challenge fan blade if it wobbles or is damaged.
  • Test fan motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan motor leads and measure winding resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Check fan capacitor (if fitted): Some models use a separate run capacitor. A bulging or leaking capacitor should be replaced with a matching fan motor capacitor.
  • Replace fan motor: If seized or electrically open, install a new Challenge fan motor assembly, transferring the fan blade and mounting brackets as needed.
