Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning internal components.
Steps:
- Clean air filter: Remove the front filter and wash with mild soap and water. Dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean coils: Remove the front and rear covers to expose the evaporator (cold) and condenser (warm) coils. Use a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove dust. Avoid bending fins.
- Check room conditions: Ensure doors and windows are closed and the room temperature is within the operating range.
- Observe compressor operation: After reassembly and powering on, check if the compressor runs (you should feel the condenser coil warming after several minutes). If the compressor runs but coils do not get appropriately hot/cold, refrigerant may be low.
Important: If cleaning and proper setup do not restore performance, a sealed system issue (refrigerant leak or weak compressor) is likely. This requires a qualified refrigeration technician; do not attempt to open the sealed system yourself.
