Possible Causes
Stuck or misaligned float in water bucket, failed bucket full micro-switch, broken bucket switch lever, disconnected switch wiring from main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before inspecting internal switches.
Steps:
- Check bucket placement: Remove and reinsert the water bucket firmly, ensuring it is fully seated and the front is flush with the cabinet.
- Inspect float mechanism: Many Challenge dehumidifiers use a plastic float inside the bucket that actuates a switch. Make sure the float moves freely up and down and is not jammed by dirt or scale.
- Test the bucket switch: With the bucket removed, locate the bucket full switch (usually near the bucket cavity). Manually press the switch lever and listen for a click. If you have a multimeter, test for continuity when pressed.
- Clean and adjust: Remove any debris around the switch and float. Ensure the float arm properly engages the switch lever when the bucket is full.
- Replace faulty parts: If the switch does not click or test correctly, replace it with a compatible Challenge bucket full micro-switch. If the float is waterlogged or broken, replace the Challenge water bucket float assembly.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the bucket, plug in, and run the unit. The E9 code should clear when the switch circuit is restored.
