Defrost Mode Active / Low Temperature Protection
Dehumidifier displays P1 and does not start dehumidifying.

Possible Causes
Evaporator temperature below operating threshold, room temperature too low for normal operation, sensor reading coil as too cold due to partial icing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: P1 on many Challenge dehumidifiers is a status indication, not a fault, meaning the unit is in defrost mode.
Steps:
- Allow defrost cycle: Leave the unit plugged in and powered on. The fan may run while the compressor is off. After several minutes, P1 should clear automatically when the coil warms.
- Check room temperature: Ensure the room is above the minimum operating temperature (typically 5–10°C). Move the unit to a warmer area if necessary.
- Inspect for icing: If P1 persists, unplug the unit, remove the bucket, and check the evaporator for ice. Allow all ice to melt before restarting.
- Improve airflow: Clean the air filter and ensure vents are not blocked. Poor airflow can cause excessive icing and frequent P1 cycles.
When to seek service: If P1 never clears even in a warm room with good airflow, there may be a sensor or control issue that requires professional diagnosis.
