Dehumidifier shows E5 and will not start or stops shortly after starting.

Safety: Unplug the unit before any internal inspection. Do not bypass safety devices like overloads or fuses.

• Ventilation check: Ensure the rear and sides of the dehumidifier have at least several inches of clearance and that the condenser coil is not blocked by dust.
• Power reset: Unplug for 15 minutes to allow the compressor overload to cool, then plug back in and try again. If E5 returns immediately, proceed.
• Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector (usually in a plastic housing on the compressor terminals).
• Inspect components: Look for burn marks or melted plastic on the PTC relay or overload. Gently remove the relay/overload assembly and check for rattling pieces inside the relay (a sign of failure).
• Test compressor windings: With power disconnected, use a multimeter to measure resistance between the three compressor pins. Readings should be finite and not shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective.
• Replace start components: If the compressor tests good, replace the Comfee compressor start relay/PTC and overload protector as a kit.
• Control board: If new start components do not resolve E5, the main control board may be misreading current and should be replaced by a technician.
