Possible Causes
Defective defrost temperature sensor, Sensor not attached to evaporator, Control board defrost logic failure, Very low ambient temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal components.
- 1. Check room temperature:
- Ensure the dehumidifier is used within the recommended temperature range (typically above 41°F/5°C).
- 2. Inspect evaporator and sensor:
- Remove the cover and inspect the evaporator coil for heavy ice buildup.
- Locate the defrost sensor clipped to the coil; ensure it is firmly attached.
- 3. Allow manual defrost:
- Turn off and unplug the unit; allow all ice to melt completely (may take several hours).
- 4. Replace sensor if needed:
- If E5 returns quickly and the sensor is properly placed, replace the defrost temperature sensor.
- 5. Control board check:
- If a new sensor does not resolve E5, the control PCB defrost circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
