Possible Causes
Open or shorted heater element, Tripped thermal fuse on heater assembly, Faulty heater relay on control board, Excessive scale buildup around heater causing localized overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the humidifier and allow it to cool completely. The heater area can remain hot for several minutes after use.
- 1. Descale heater area:
- Remove the water tank and empty the base.
- Fill the heater chamber area with a 1:1 vinegar and water solution and let it soak for 20–30 minutes.
- Gently scrub with a soft brush to remove scale, then rinse thoroughly.
- 2. Inspect heater assembly:
- If accessible, remove the bottom cover to view the heater element and thermal fuse.
- Look for burnt spots, broken wires, or a blown thermal fuse (often a small cylindrical component in heat-shrink tubing).
- 3. Electrical checks (for experienced users):
- Use a multimeter to check continuity across the heater element; an open circuit indicates a failed heater.
- Check continuity across the thermal fuse; if open, it must be replaced with the exact temperature and current rating.
- 4. Control board inspection:
- Inspect the heater relay on the control PCB for burn marks or cracked solder joints.
- 5. Reassemble and test:
- After cleaning and any part replacement, reassemble and test warm mist mode.
- If E5 persists, the control board may be defective and should be replaced or serviced by a technician.
