Possible Causes
Failed fan motor, Obstructed blower wheel, Faulty fan capacitor (for AC motors), Burned fan driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the fan compartment.
- 1. Check for obstructions:
- Remove the cover and inspect the blower wheel and fan blades.
- Clear any debris or foreign objects.
- 2. Spin test:
- Try spinning the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding.
- 3. Inspect motor and capacitor:
- Look for burnt smell or discoloration on the fan motor.
- If equipped, test or replace the fan capacitor with the same µF rating.
- 4. Electrical test (advanced):
- Use a multimeter to verify voltage at the fan motor terminals when the unit is calling for fan operation.
- No voltage may indicate a control board fault.
- 5. Replace components:
- Replace the fan motor if seized or electrically open.
- If the motor is good but not receiving power, replace the main control PCB.
