Possible Causes
Faulty humidity sensor, Sensor not sensing room air properly, Oversized room for unit capacity, Air leaks or open windows
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before accessing the humidity sensor or control panel.
- Step 1 – Verify with external hygrometer: Use a separate humidity meter to compare actual room humidity with the Danby display. If the unit reads much higher, the sensor may be faulty.
- Step 2 – Improve room sealing: Close windows and doors. Reduce sources of moisture (drying clothes indoors, unvented showers).
- Step 3 – Check sensor placement: Ensure the humidity sensor (usually near the intake) is not blocked by curtains or walls and is not taped or tucked away inside the cabinet.
- Step 4 – Clean sensor area: Gently blow dust off the sensor with dry air. Do not spray liquids on it.
- Step 5 – Replace humidity sensor: If readings remain inaccurate, replace the humidity sensor assembly with a Danby-compatible part.
When to call a technician: If a new sensor does not correct the issue, the control board may be misinterpreting readings and require replacement.
