Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Sharp metal edges may be present; wear cut-resistant gloves.
- Step 1 – Reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and restart. If E2 reappears immediately, continue.
- Step 2 – Access evaporator area: Remove the rear or front cover (depending on model) to expose the evaporator coil. Refer to the user manual for screw locations.
- Step 3 – Locate thermistor: Find the small sensor clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing. Ensure it is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Trace the thermistor wires back to the control board. Look for chafing, pinched sections, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the board.
- Step 5 – Test and replace: Use a multimeter to check resistance. Compare to expected values from a service manual if available. Replace the evaporator thermistor if readings are open, shorted, or far out of range.
When to call a technician: If a new thermistor does not clear E2, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
