Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before working near water or the internal pump. Avoid spilling water on electrical components.
- Step 1 – Check external drain: If using the built-in pump, inspect the discharge hose for kinks, clogs, or elevation higher than specified in the manual. Clear any blockage and ensure proper downward slope.
- Step 2 – Inspect internal reservoir: Remove the bucket and look for an internal pump reservoir (on pump models). Make sure it is not overfilled with slime or debris. Clean with warm soapy water if accessible.
- Step 3 – Verify float movement: Locate the pump float inside the reservoir. Confirm it moves freely up and down and is not stuck by scale or dirt.
- Step 4 – Listen for pump operation: Reassemble, plug in, and run the unit. When water accumulates, you should hear the pump run briefly. If E5 appears and no pump sound is heard, the pump or its wiring may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Replace pump assembly (advanced): Access the pump by removing the rear or bottom panel. Disconnect the wiring harness and hoses, then install a new Danby-compatible pump assembly, ensuring all hose clamps are secure.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable working around water and electrical components, or if E5 persists after hose and float checks, contact a service technician.
