Possible Causes
Water bucket full, Bucket not seated correctly on bucket switch, Faulty bucket full float, Defective bucket full switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the unit OFF and unplug before removing the bucket.
- Step 1 – Empty the bucket: Carefully pull out the water bucket, empty it completely, and reinstall it firmly until it is fully seated. Make sure it is not tilted or misaligned.
- Step 2 – Check bucket float: Inside the bucket there is usually a plastic float that rises with water level. Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck by dirt, scale, or debris. Clean and rinse the bucket thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Inspect bucket switch area: Look into the cavity where the bucket slides in. Locate the small bucket switch or lever that the bucket or float actuates. Make sure no plastic tabs are broken and that the switch is not obstructed.
- Step 4 – Continuous drain mode check: If using a hose for continuous drainage, confirm the hose is properly attached, not kinked, and that the bucket is still installed (many Danby models require the bucket to remain in place even in hose mode). A blocked hose can cause the bucket to fill and trigger P2.
- Step 5 – Test the bucket switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the front panel to access the bucket switch. Check that the wiring harness is firmly connected. Using a multimeter, verify the switch changes state when pressed. Replace the switch if it does not operate correctly.
When to call a technician: If P2 remains even with an empty, correctly seated bucket and a known-good switch, the control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a professional.
