Possible Causes
Room temperature too low, Restricted airflow from dirty filter, Faulty defrost sensor or control, Low refrigerant charge causing uneven cooling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow ice to melt completely before working on it. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
Step-by-step:
- 1. Defrost the unit: Leave the dehumidifier unplugged with the front cover removed until all ice has melted. Place towels to catch water.
- 2. Clean filter and coils: Wash the air filter and vacuum dust from the evaporator coil.
- 3. Check room temperature: Ensure the room is above the minimum operating temperature (usually 5–10°C). Move the unit if necessary.
- 4. Verify fan operation: Make sure the fan runs continuously when the compressor is on. A slow or non-running fan will cause icing.
- 5. Inspect defrost sensor: Confirm the defrost sensor is properly attached to the coil and its wiring is intact (see E4). Replace if faulty.
- 6. Persistent icing: If icing continues despite proper airflow and temperature, a refrigerant or metering device issue may exist and requires professional service.
