Possible Causes

Open-circuit ambient NTC thermistor, shorted ambient NTC thermistor, damaged sensor harness, failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dehumidifier from the mains before removing any covers. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.

E1 on many Devola dehumidifiers indicates a problem with the room (ambient) temperature sensor.

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes a transient fault clears.
  • Check sensor wiring: Remove the front or side panel (consult your Devola model manual). Locate the small NTC sensor clipped near the air inlet grille or evaporator coil, connected by two thin wires to the main PCB. Ensure the plug is fully seated on the PCB and that the wires are not cut or pinched.
  • Inspect the sensor: If the sensor body is cracked, corroded, or hanging loose from its clip, it should be replaced. The part is usually labeled as an "Ambient NTC Sensor" or "Room Temperature Sensor" in Devola parts lists.
  • Test continuity (advanced): Using a multimeter set to resistance (with the unit unplugged), measure across the sensor leads. A typical NTC will show several kΩ at room temperature. Infinite (open) or near 0 Ω (short) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace the sensor: If faulty, order the correct Devola ambient NTC sensor for your model. Disconnect the old sensor from the PCB, route the new sensor along the same path, secure it in the original clip, and reconnect to the PCB.
  • If E1 persists: The sensor input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective. In that case, replacement of the main control PCB is usually required and is best done by a qualified technician.
