Possible Causes

Evaporator sensor out of range, heavy ice buildup on evaporator, blocked airflow across coil, main control PCB defrost logic fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn the unit off and unplug it before any disassembly.

E4 often relates to abnormal coil temperature readings or defrost issues.

  • Allow full defrost: Turn the unit off, unplug it, and let it sit in a warm room for at least 2–3 hours to melt any ice on the evaporator coil. Place towels underneath to catch drips.
  • Clean the air filter: Remove and wash the air filter with mild detergent and warm water. Let it dry completely before reinstalling. Restricted airflow can cause the coil to freeze.
  • Check airflow: Ensure the air inlet and outlet grilles are not blocked by walls, curtains, or furniture. Maintain the clearance specified in the Devola manual.
  • Inspect the evaporator sensor: After defrosting, remove the front cover and verify that the evaporator NTC sensor is firmly attached to the coil and its wires are intact. A loose sensor can misread coil temperature and trigger E4.
  • Test/replace sensor if needed: If E4 recurs and the sensor appears damaged, replace it with the correct Devola evaporator NTC sensor.
  • Persistent E4: If airflow is good, the sensor is new, and the coil still ices quickly, there may be a refrigerant or control PCB issue. This requires a qualified refrigeration technician.
