Possible Causes
Overheated compressor, blocked condenser coil, failed condenser fan motor, faulty compressor thermal protector, main control PCB compressor drive fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before inspection. Do not bypass any safety devices.
E5 is commonly associated with compressor protection or high-temperature faults.
- Ventilation check: Ensure the unit is placed with adequate clearance on all sides and not in a confined space. Overheating can trigger E5.
- Clean condenser area: Remove the rear or side panel to access the condenser coil (the warm coil near the compressor). Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins.
- Check the fan: Confirm that the condenser fan runs when the unit attempts to start the compressor. If the fan is not spinning or is noisy/stiff, the condenser fan motor may be failing and should be replaced.
- Allow cool-down: If the compressor is very hot to the touch (do not burn yourself), allow the unit to cool for at least 1 hour before retrying.
- Inspect wiring to compressor: With power disconnected, check the wiring harness and connectors at the compressor and overload protector for signs of burning or loose connections.
- Replace faulty components: If the fan motor is seized or the overload protector is visibly damaged, replace with the correct Devola condenser fan motor or compressor overload protector.
- Ongoing E5: If E5 persists, the compressor itself or the main control PCB may be defective. This is a complex repair requiring a refrigeration technician.
