Possible Causes

Open or shorted ambient NTC thermistor, Damaged sensor harness to main PCB, Corroded sensor connector on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Dimplex dehumidifier from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.

Steps to check and fix:

  • Remove the front or side cover (depending on model) to access the control board and sensor harness. Keep screws organized.
  • Locate the ambient/room temperature sensor (NTC) – typically a small probe or bead sensor clipped near the air inlet grille or evaporator, connected by two thin wires to the main PCB.
  • Inspect the sensor wiring for cuts, pinches, or signs of overheating. Reseat the connector on the main PCB by unplugging and firmly reconnecting it.
  • If you have a multimeter, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature (usually 5–20 kΩ depending on model). An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
  • Clean any corrosion on the connector with electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry fully.
  • If the sensor is out of spec or open/shorted, replace it with a Dimplex-compatible ambient NTC sensor for your exact model. Route the new sensor wiring away from sharp metal edges and moving parts.
  • Reassemble the cabinet, restore power, and clear the error by unplugging for 5 minutes, then powering back on. Confirm the E1 code does not reappear.

When to stop: If the E1 code persists after replacing the sensor and checking wiring, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be diagnosed or replaced by a qualified technician.
