Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power. Capacitors inside may hold charge; avoid touching PCB components unless discharged and you are competent to do so.
Steps:
- Clean the condenser coil (warm coil) with a soft brush and vacuum. Ensure the rear and sides of the unit have adequate ventilation.
- Listen for compressor attempting to start (clicking or brief hum). If it repeatedly tries and stops, suspect the start device.
- Access the compressor terminal cover and inspect the start relay/PTC and overload protector. Look for burn marks or melted plastic.
- Test or replace the start relay/PTC with a Dimplex-specified compressor start device for your model. Ensure tight connections on the compressor terminals.
- Inspect wiring from compressor to main PCB for heat damage or loose spade connectors.
- If E5 persists and the compressor draws locked-rotor current or fails to start even with a new start device, the compressor itself may be mechanically seized and require professional replacement.
Warning: Do not bypass overload or safety devices; this is dangerous and can cause fire or further damage.
