Possible Causes
Blocked or jammed fan wheel, Failed fan motor, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan speed feedback circuit on PCB (for models with tach feedback)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Fan blades are sharp; wear gloves.
Steps:
- Remove the rear or side panel to access the fan motor and blower wheel.
- Check for obstructions such as plastic bags, insulation, or heavy dust buildup preventing the fan from turning. Clean thoroughly.
- Spin the fan wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing.
- Inspect the fan motor wiring harness and connector at the main PCB. Reseat the connector and check for heat damage.
- On models with a 3-wire fan (tach feedback), ensure the feedback wire is intact. A broken feedback line can trigger E8.
- If the motor does not run when powered and wiring is good, replace the Dimplex fan motor assembly for your model.
- Reassemble, restore power, and verify that airflow is strong and the E8 code is cleared.
Warning: Do not operate the unit with panels removed; this can expose live parts and disrupt airflow needed for safe operation.
