Possible Causes

Corrupted control board firmware, Failed EEPROM IC, Power surge damage to main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Electronic board work should be done by experienced persons only.

Steps:

  • Perform a power reset: unplug the dehumidifier for at least 10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes this clears transient memory errors.
  • If E9 returns immediately, inspect the main control PCB for burn marks, bulging capacitors, or signs of surge damage.
  • There is typically no user-serviceable way to reprogram the EEPROM in Dimplex consumer units. The standard repair is to replace the main control PCB with an OEM part.
  • Transfer any wiring harnesses one by one from the old board to the new board, matching connectors carefully. Take photos before removal to avoid miswiring.
  • Secure the new PCB, reassemble the cabinet, and test operation. Confirm that E9 is cleared and all functions work.

Note: Use a surge protector to reduce the risk of future EEPROM or PCB damage from mains spikes.
