Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. The sealed refrigeration system operates under pressure; do not attempt to open or recharge it yourself.
Steps to address E5:
- Clean condenser coil: Access the rear or side of the unit and locate the warm condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint. Ensure there is at least 12–18 inches of clearance around the exhaust.
- Check condenser fan: Turn the unit on and verify that the fan runs whenever the compressor is running. If the fan does not start, hums, or is slow, inspect for obstructions and test the fan motor. Replace the fan motor if defective.
- Inspect temperature sensor (if equipped): Some Electrolux models use a discharge line temperature sensor. Ensure it is firmly attached and wiring is intact.
- Allow cool-down: If the unit has been running continuously in a hot room, unplug it for 30 minutes to allow the compressor overload to reset, then restart.
- Sealed system issues: If E5 recurs quickly, the compressor may be overheating due to low refrigerant, a blocked capillary tube, or internal compressor failure. These are sealed system problems that require a certified refrigeration technician.
Warning: Do not bypass thermal overloads or sensors. Doing so can cause fire or permanent compressor damage.
