Dehumidifier shows E6 and does not dehumidify; compressor may not start.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and wait several minutes before accessing the compressor compartment. The compressor and nearby tubing can be hot.
Steps to address E6:
- Access compressor terminals: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the compressor. Remove the plastic terminal cover to access the start device and wiring.
- Inspect wiring: Check for burnt connectors, loose spade terminals, or melted insulation. Repair or replace damaged connectors.
- Test start relay/PTC: Remove the start device from the compressor pins. Shake it gently; if it rattles excessively or shows burn marks, replace it. Use a multimeter to check for continuity according to the part specifications.
- Check capacitor (if present): Discharge the capacitor safely, then measure its capacitance with a meter. Replace if more than ±10% out of rated value or if bulged/leaking.
- Compressor test: With the start device removed and power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals (C-R, C-S, R-S). Readings should be finite and consistent; a direct short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
- Replace components: If the start relay or capacitor is faulty, replace with the exact Electrolux-specified part. If the compressor is shorted or open, the entire sealed system must be serviced by a professional.
Warning: Do not attempt to open the sealed system or replace the compressor yourself unless you are EPA-certified and equipped for refrigeration work.
