Possible Causes
Ambient temperature below or above operating range, Faulty ambient temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Control board misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before servicing.
Steps to address F2:
- Check room temperature: Ensure the unit is operating within the specified temperature range (typically 41–95°F / 5–35°C). Move the unit to a suitable environment if necessary.
- Inspect sensor location: Make sure the ambient sensor is not touching hot components or placed where it reads incorrectly (e.g., near condenser exhaust).
- Test sensor: With power off, measure the resistance of the ambient sensor and compare to expected values. Replace if out of range.
- Inspect wiring: Look for shorts to metal parts or damaged insulation along the sensor wires.
- Replace control board: If the sensor and wiring are good but F2 persists, the main control board may be defective.
Warning: Do not relocate the sensor away from its designed position; this can cause improper operation.
