Possible Causes

Evaporative wick filter saturated with minerals, Wick filter heavily clogged with dust and debris, Filter not seated correctly in housing, Control board filter timer not reset after replacement

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the humidifier before opening the cabinet or touching internal parts.

  • Access the filter: Remove the water bottle or tank and open the main cabinet on your Essick Air console unit (e.g., AIRCARE / Essick Air evaporative console). Slide out the wick filter assembly.
  • Inspect the wick: If the wick is hard, crusty, discolored, or has a strong odor, it is due for replacement. Essick Air wicks are consumable items and should be replaced regularly.
  • Replace the wick filter: Install a new OEM Essick Air wick filter (check your model for the correct part number, such as 1043 Super Wick or equivalent). Make sure it is fully seated in the frame and oriented correctly.
  • Clean the base: Wipe mineral deposits from the reservoir and base with a 50/50 white vinegar and water solution. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Reset the CF indicator: On most Essick Air digital consoles, press and hold the Filter Reset or Reset button for 3–5 seconds until the CF icon clears. If your model uses a different method, refer to the user manual.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the tank, fill with water, plug the unit back in, and run it. The CF code should be gone and the fan should operate normally.

If CF reappears immediately, verify that the filter is genuine Essick Air and that the control panel buttons are not stuck or damaged.
