Possible Causes

Mineral buildup in water reservoir, Wick filter heavily scaled, Internal scale on float or level sensor, Timer-based maintenance reminder triggered

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the humidifier and remove the water tank before cleaning.

  • Empty and rinse: Remove the water bottle and pour out any remaining water from the base.
  • Descale the base: Fill the reservoir with a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Let it soak for 20–30 minutes to dissolve mineral deposits. Use a soft brush to scrub stubborn scale. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Clean or replace wick: Remove the wick filter. If it is crusted with white scale or has an odor, replace it with a genuine Essick Air wick. Do not use harsh chemicals on the wick.
  • Clean float/level sensor: If your model uses a float, remove and clean it so it moves freely. For electronic sensors, gently wipe the sensor area.
  • Reset CL indicator: Press and hold the Clean or Reset button (varies by model) for several seconds until CL clears.

Regular cleaning every 1–2 weeks in hard water areas will prevent frequent CL alerts and extend component life.
