Possible Causes

Failed thermistor sensor on control board, Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector at control PCB, Control board internal failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the humidifier before removing any panels or accessing the control board.

  • Power reset: Leave the unit unplugged for 5–10 minutes to discharge the control board, then plug it back in. Sometimes E1 is a transient error.
  • Inspect sensor wiring: Remove the control panel cover (usually held by screws from the back or underside). Locate the small thermistor sensor (often near the air intake grille) and follow its wires to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Check for damage: Look for pinched, broken, or chewed wires (especially if the unit is stored in basements or garages). Repair or replace damaged wiring using proper connectors and insulation.
  • Clean dust and moisture: Lightly blow out dust from the control board and sensor area. Make sure there is no condensation or water intrusion on the board.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the panel, plug the unit in, and power it on. If E1 remains, the thermistor or the main control board is likely defective.

Replacing the thermistor or control board requires correct part identification by model number. If you are not comfortable with electronics, contact an authorized Essick Air service center.
