Possible Causes
Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Damaged sensor harness near evaporator coil, Failed main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the dehumidifier before opening the cabinet. Coil fins are sharp; wear gloves.
Steps to address E2:
- Reset attempt: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then power back on. If E2 reappears, proceed.
- Access the evaporator area: Remove the front grille and filter. Take off the front or side panel (screws along the edges). Carefully pull the housing to expose the evaporator coil (cold coil).
- Locate the evaporator sensor: On GE units this is usually a small probe or clip-on thermistor attached to the evaporator coil tubing with a clip or tape, connected by a 2‑wire harness to the main control board.
- Inspect the sensor: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. Check for broken insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector.
- Reconnect and clean: Unplug and replug the sensor connector at the control board to clear any oxidation. Do not pull on the wires; pull on the plastic plug.
- Optional resistance test: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance across its leads. Compare to typical NTC values (several kΩ at room temperature). If it reads open or shorted, replace it.
- Reassemble and test: Replace the sensor if defective, reattach it firmly to the coil, reassemble the cabinet, plug in, and test. If E2 persists with a known-good sensor, the main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
Note: Avoid bending the coil fins; if they get bent, straighten gently with a fin comb.
