Possible Causes

Failed main control board, Loose ribbon cable between display board and main board, Corrupted control firmware, Shorted low-voltage circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the dehumidifier before removing any covers. Avoid touching any exposed circuitry unnecessarily.

Steps to address E5:

  • Hard reset: Unplug the unit for at least 10 minutes to discharge internal capacitors. Plug back in and check if E5 clears.
  • Check for moisture: Inspect the control panel area for signs of condensation or water intrusion. If wet, allow the unit to dry completely (24 hours in a dry room) before retrying.
  • Access control boards: Remove screws securing the top/control panel. Carefully lift to expose the display board and main control board.
  • Inspect ribbon cables: Many GE units use a flat ribbon cable between the display and main board. Ensure it is fully seated at both ends and not kinked or damaged.
  • Look for burn marks: Examine the main control board for burnt components, bulging capacitors, or darkened areas. If present, the board must be replaced.
  • Re-seat connectors: One at a time, unplug and replug low-voltage connectors to clear oxidation. Do not force any connector.
  • Replace main control board: If E5 persists after reseating cables and drying, replace the main control board with a GE-compatible part. Transfer any wiring harnesses one by one to avoid miswiring.

Warning: Do not attempt to repair the control board at component level unless you are trained in electronics; replacement is the recommended approach.
