Possible Causes

Shorted or open ambient thermistor, Sensor knocked out of position, Damaged harness near intake grille, Failed sensor input on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before servicing.

Steps to address F2:

  • Check intake area: Remove the air filter and inspect behind the intake grille for the ambient sensor. Ensure it is not dangling or pressed against the coil.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for pinched or cut insulation.
  • Reconnect sensor: At the control board, unplug and replug the ambient sensor connector to ensure good contact.
  • Replace sensor: If the sensor appears damaged or F2 persists, replace the ambient temperature sensor with a GE-compatible part.
  • Control board: If a new sensor does not resolve F2, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.

Tip: Keep the sensor in the airflow path, not touching metal, for accurate readings.
