Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Sensor detached from coil, Harness damage from frost or vibration, Faulty control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp coil fins.

Steps to address F3:

  • Inspect coil and sensor: Remove the front panel to expose the evaporator coil. Locate the thermistor clipped to the coil tubing.
  • Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped and making good contact with the coil. Reattach if loose.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for damage where the sensor wires pass through metal openings. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Reconnect at board: Unplug and replug the sensor connector at the main control board.
  • Replace sensor: If F3 persists, replace the evaporator thermistor with a GE-compatible part.
  • Control board: If a new sensor does not clear F3, replace the main control board.
