Dehumidifier displays P2 and stops running, bucket is full or nearly full

Possible Causes
Water bucket full, Misaligned bucket not engaging switch, Faulty bucket full float switch, Obstruction preventing float from moving freely
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Understanding P2: On many GE dehumidifiers, P2 indicates the water bucket is full or the bucket full switch is activated.
Steps to address P2:
- Empty the bucket: Pull out the water bucket carefully and empty it completely. Reseat it firmly until it is flush with the cabinet.
- Check bucket alignment: Ensure the bucket is not tilted and that any guide rails are properly engaged. The bucket must press the bucket full switch lever.
- Inspect float mechanism: Inside the bucket, locate the float assembly. Make sure it moves freely and is not stuck by scale or debris. Clean with warm, soapy water if needed.
- Test bucket switch: With the unit unplugged and bucket removed, locate the bucket full switch near the bucket opening. Press the lever by hand; you should hear a click. If it feels loose or does not click, the switch may be faulty.
- Bypass test (advanced): For brief testing only, you can hold the switch closed (or temporarily tape the lever) with the bucket removed to see if P2 clears. Do not operate the unit long-term without the bucket and switch functioning; this can cause water damage.
- Replace switch: If P2 remains even with a properly seated bucket and working float, replace the bucket full switch with a GE-compatible part.
Warning: Never defeat the bucket full safety permanently. Always ensure proper drainage.
