P3
GE Appliances
Low Ambient Temperature Protection
Dehumidifier shows P3 and does not start the compressor

Possible Causes
Room temperature below minimum operating range, Defective ambient temperature sensor reading too low, Control board misinterpreting sensor data
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Understanding P3: On some GE models, P3 indicates the room is too cold for safe operation.
Steps to address P3:
- Measure room temperature: Use a separate thermometer to confirm the actual room temperature. If it is below about 65°F (18°C), move the unit to a warmer area.
- Allow warm-up: If the unit was stored in a cold garage or basement, let it sit unplugged in a warmer room for several hours before use.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the ambient temperature sensor is properly located near the air intake and not touching cold metal surfaces that could skew readings.
- Inspect sensor wiring: Look for damage or loose connections at the ambient sensor and control board.
- Replace sensor or board: If the room is warm but P3 persists, replace the ambient temperature sensor. If that does not resolve the issue, the main control board may be faulty.
Note: Running a dehumidifier in very cold spaces is ineffective and can damage the unit.
