Possible Causes
Loose blower wheel on motor shaft, Debris caught in fan blades, Worn fan motor bearings, Cracked fan blade or blower wheel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the fan.
Steps to address noise:
- Remove front/rear cover: Access the fan and blower assembly.
- Inspect for debris: Remove any foreign objects (plastic, insulation, etc.) from the fan blades.
- Check blower wheel: Gently wiggle the blower wheel. If it is loose on the shaft, tighten the set screw if present or replace the blower wheel.
- Spin the fan motor: Rotate the fan by hand. Roughness or play indicates worn bearings; replace the fan motor.
- Reassemble and test: Ensure all panels are secured; loose panels can also cause rattling.
