Possible Causes

Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Failed main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before opening any panels.

Steps to address E2:

  • Access the coil area: Remove the front bucket, then the front cover or side panels to expose the evaporator coil (cold coil).
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: It is usually clipped directly to the evaporator tubing or fins, with two small wires leading back to the control board.
  • Inspect the sensor: Ensure it is firmly clipped to the coil and the wires are not cut, pinched, or corroded. Reseat the connector at the control board.
  • Test the sensor (if possible): Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values (e.g., around 10kΩ at room temperature). A reading of infinite or near 0Ω indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace if faulty: Install a new GE evaporator thermistor/coil sensor and clip it securely to the same location on the coil.
  • If sensor is good: The main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly. Inspect and, if necessary, replace the main control board.
