Possible Causes
Failed humidity sensor element, Disconnected or damaged humidity sensor harness, Faulty main control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before servicing.
Steps to address E3:
- Locate the humidity sensor: On many GE dehumidifiers, the humidity sensor is mounted behind the front grille near the air intake or integrated into the control panel assembly.
- Visual inspection: Remove the front grille or control panel cover. Look for a small sensor module with 2–4 wires. Check for corrosion, dust buildup, or broken wires.
- Clean the sensor area: Use compressed air or a soft brush to gently remove dust from the sensor and intake area. Do not wet the sensor.
- Check connections: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on the control board. Reseat the connector several times to clear oxidation.
- Replace the humidity sensor if suspect: If E3 persists, replace with a compatible GE humidity sensor / RH sensor assembly for your model. Transfer any mounting clips or brackets.
- Control board check: If a new sensor does not clear E3, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced.
